Why the princess gave up her stilettos on Valentine’s Day and why I did too
Posted by Jina Bacarr
I’m a late night writer and when I wind down at nights, well, it’s 3 a.m. and time for Morning Joe on MSNBC.
And my fave hostess, Mika Brzezinski. Mike recently wrote a post on KNOW YOUR VALUE about giving up high heels.
I so agree.
I recently tossed a bunch of old high heels, wondering how I ever walked in them. I remember carrying my stilettos by their straps over my shoulder as I ran for the vaporetto, boat taxi, in Venice when I was performing there. I’d been traipsing around the city trying to look ‘cool’ in ankle strap 4-inch-high stilettos — but my feel were anything but that.
When I gave my talk and then did my performance dance, I did it barefoot and wondered why I ever brought high heels.
But what about a princess? Can she get a guy not wearing stilettos?
Find out in my video!
Wishing you a fab Valentine’s Day and lots of chocolate!!

The Princess and the Stilettos for Valentine’s Day from Jina Bacarr on Vimeo.
When I was a little girl, a princess I wanted to be
So I got all dressed up looking for a prince to marry me
I searched high and low
But found no beau
As I got older
I got a little bolder
I dressed to kill
But no boyfriend still
What’s wrong with me? I wanted to know
I work so hard to be perfect and I’m always on the go
It’s your shoes, my best friend said, rolling her eyes
Princesses wear sexy shoes to please the guys
Like Cinderella? I said, with her slipper made of glass
Yes, you need sexy stilettos so he’ll make a pass
Not so, I assured her confident and wise
A smart girl knows how to get the guys
Oh yeah? she said, wrinkling her nose
Try it if you dare and forget your woes
So shopping I went stilettos to buy
And sexy undies to get a guy
In the end I got my prince wearing no shoes at all
Like Cinderella, I ran from the Ball
With my handsome prince hot on my tail
My stiletto in hand, looking for me to no avail
What happened, you ask? so curious and fine
How did I find my Valentine?
True, the sexy kicks helped me to catch his eye
But in the end it was something much more sly
Instead of trying so hard Miss Perfect to be
I ended up doing what came naturally
Like a dancing princess, I kicked off my shoes and danced all night
When this gorgeous man grabbed me and wouldn’t let me out of his sight
How did I know he was a man not to be missed?
Take one look at him. It was in his kiss…
Philly, Row Houses and Pretzels, oh my! #NationalPretzelDay
Posted by Jina Bacarr
When I was a kid in Philly, the good Sisters of Charity welcomed the Pretzel Man every day past the iron gate and into the school yard. Oh, the excitement from the little girls in their blue uniforms–including me. I couldn’t wait to bite into the yummy pretzel during lunch recess…thank you, Sisters!
I love Philly pretzels.
They’re long, chewy, and have just the right amount of salt. As you can tell, that fond memory has stayed with me. When I wanted to write about a heroine for Sariah Wilson’s Kindle Worlds series, The Royals of Monterra, I wanted to take a girl who lives in a row house in Philly.
A girl with a dream to fly on the silks in an aerial ballet, but something is holding her back.
Until she receives a royal command to perform in Monterra.
There she meets a handsome member of the Monterran family who isn’t what he seems…
Fairy Tales & Magic:
Royal Magic The magic is in his kiss…
A Philly girl falls in love with a royal magician.
ROYAL MAGIC is available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited

Here is a fairy tale video about an unusual Cinderella narrated by me from the stories I’ve written for Sariah Wilson’s Kindle Worlds Royals of Monterra series!

Book 2: Royal Bride Can a sexy prince give a girl a second chance at love?
incess Violetta in Sariah Wilson’s story, ROYAL DATE.
You can meet see what happened to her afterward in rehab in ROYAL DARE.
I fell in love with the Monterra family, especially Violetta. I call her the “misunderstood princess.” She has everything—looks, money and a title—yet she fell victim to the seductive power of drugs. Why? I wondered. What led her down this path?
I was intrigued to answer that question, but more importantly, I wanted to know what happened to Violetta when she went to rehab. How hard is it for a princess to get clean? And will she find her prince when she does?
I answer this question and more in my Kindle Worlds “The Royals of Monterra” story, ROYAL DARE.
I hope you enjoy it!

What if Romeo and Juliet had cell phones? #TalkLikeShakespeareDay
Posted by Jina Bacarr
I can’t let “Talk like Shakespeare Day” go by without a tribute to Romeo and Juliet…a day for all romantics who love the joy of words!
Whither I should dare partake of words like the Bard on “Talk like Shakespeare Day” to regale you, but I shall attempt to drink the wine that maketh words of beauty flow from my lips . . .
Or:
I’ll just spit it out and say:
Happy Shakespeare Day!!
To celebrate, here is a fun graphic I put together with a 21st century twist.
Who knows what would have happened to the two lovers if they’d had cell phones?

Oh, goody, it’s pizza party day!!
I love pizza. Or tomato pies as they used to call them in Philly. (Yes, I’ve got the Liberty Bell state on my mind since my heroine in my latest WIP, Royal Magic [Royals of Monterra, Kindle Worlds], is from South Philly.)
Now, for our pizza party.
Here’s a video I made when I was asked to speak and perform at La Biennale in Venice, Italy and my search for pizza…

We all love fairy tales — so why not a “Happily Ever After” Museum for #MuseumDay?
Posted by Jina Bacarr
I love museums.
I’ve traipsed through the Louvre, hung out at the Franklin Institute in Philly, and faced off with an Egyptian queen up close and personal in Berlin.
History…so precious. It shapes us and our stories.
But what the other history?
The one that exists only in…dare I say it…fairy tales?
Wouldn’t you love to see Cindy’s glass slipper? Her ball gown? See if her pumpkin coach has plush, orange satin cushions?
And:
Sleeping Beauty’s 100-year-old bed
Snow White’s poison apple
The Evil Queen’s Talking Mirror
Rumpelstiltskin’s spinning wheel
Aladdin’s magic lamp
What fairy tale historical items would you like to see in “The Happily After Museum?”
I’d love to hear your ideas for our “Happily Ever After Museum!”

Limerick Day: The Princess and the Dragon
Posted by Jina Bacarr
The Princess and the Dragon
There once was a princess so fair
Who was caught in the red dragon’s lair
Her drug of choice was meth
Which could only lead to death
So to rehab she went in Royal Dare.
~Jina
Asking for help is the hardest thing for an addict. The shame, the embarrassment and potential consequences for admitting addition often steer them away from seeking treatment.
Fortunately for the heroine in my Royals of Monterra Kindle Worlds story “Royal Dare,” Princess Violetta finally gets into rehab with the help of her family.
