A New Year’s Eve Kacie will never forget…

This handsome hunk got himself on the front page of a British tabloid.

My heroine, Kacie Bennett, says it all in Come Fly with Me :

“Can you ask him to autograph his picture, Steph,” the redhead continued. “Pretty please?”

“Why don’t you ask Miss Bennett?” the attendant said, nodding toward Kacie and making her cringe. The woman was trying to make her feel uneasy. Why? “She’s a guest of Mr. Chantiers.”

The redhead’s eyes popped, then she smiled at Kacie. “Well, aren’t you lucky. Is he really the sexiest man alive?” she had to ask.

Kacie winced. “What did you call him?”

The Daily Sneek dubbed him the sexiest man alive. His picture is splashed all over the front page.” She winked and handed her the scandal sheet.

Kacie’s eyes popped. It was him all right. There, sprawled on the cover of the glossy gossip sheet was the gorgeous hottie who bought her a ticket home. The man’s charisma grabbed her, as bold and sexy on paper as he was in person. The paparazzi had caught his hard, muscled body in a candid shot somewhere on a white, sandy beach. Shoulders so broad they spilled off the page, his naked chest glistening with sea spray, his abs tighter than a clamshell.

And a come-hither grin that would have any woman crawling on her knees to get close to him. His brooding black eyes stared straight into the camera as if daring the photographer to take the shot.

And she had to sit next to him for the whole flight, squirming in her seat, wild feelings stirring within her. Smell his woodsy scent, dream about unbuttoning his silk shirt and running her fingers up and down his muscular bronze chest. It would be pure hell not to let her fingers wander over the armrest and grab his sleeve, feel his forearm tighten under her touch. She’d fooled herself into believing she could handle it.

She couldn’t.

She was in dangerous territory with a man this powerful and, God help her, this sexy. She’d only get hurt. That didn’t change how she felt. She wanted to taste his lips, lose herself in his kiss, his body strong and warm against hers.

Kacie groaned inwardly as she followed the flight attendant up the winding stairs toward the first class cabin. With each step, her heart pounded louder in her ears. Mr. GQ was waiting there for her. The memory of the moment he held her gaze with his piercing dark eyes lingered within her like sweet, dark molasses on a stick. He wasn’t a soufflé that needed more sugar or a vichyssoise choking with chives. He was the hunkiest piece of beefsteak she was ever going to meet in her life. A fantasy she’d always dreamed about experiencing with a stunningly handsome man, but never would back home in Forgotten Valley.

Her case of the jitters just got worse. She wondered how she was going to handle being that close to him, inhaling him for the pure joy of it, her body aching for something she could never have.

Her New Year’s Eve sucked.

Why Jace Chantiers is the sexiest man alive

Daily_Sneek_Jace_1200x1565
Did you see that British tabloid?

Every female in London must have a copy pasted to her bedpost. I didn’t know who he was until I got on board the airbus after he blew me away with his offer to give me a free ticket home to San Francisco.

I never dreamed I’d be sitting in first class next to the sexiest man alive.

Me, Kacie Bennett.

Don’t get the wrong idea. He’s just trying to help me. Seems Megan, my youngest sister, threw a hissy fit when her jock boyfriend left her behind when he went off to college. But that was no reason for her to run  away from home to marry the first guy who asked her. A real creep, but that’s a story for another day.

I want to talk about Jace Chantiers.

God, the man reeks masculinity from every pore. He’s built like a rock with shoulders so broad I swear the seams on his expensive suit are ready to rip apart. Handsome, rugged looks. He smells good, too. Spicy but with an undertone of citrus that makes me want to lean over and inhale him.

Not that I would. I’m a good girl. I run the family B&B: Bennett’s Bed & Breakfast, but the locals call it The 3 Bees. No hanky panky for me. Especially 30,000 feet up in the air. How I got here is a story in itself…

Gotta go. He’s making his play…rubbing his knee against mine. Giving me that look he’s famous for on the tabloid cover…taking off his suit jacket…damn, he’s opening his shirt. Oh, my God. His chest is muscular and bronze just like in the photo. He’s cupping my chin in his hand, his lips brushing mine…

Uh-oh, I think I’m about to find out why Jace Chantiers is the sexiest man alive…

Will Kacie be able to resist the sexiest man alive?

Could you?

“Come Fly with Me”…in First Class

Come_Fly_girl_1stperson_cover

When I saw this photo of the girl with the suitcase, I wondered what was going through her head…did she pack enough sunscreen? Did she forget her vibrator?

Or did some sexy guy just offer her the chance to fly with him in first class?

I chose the latter…and wrote Come Fly with Me about a bad boy billionaire who hooks up with a lonely good girl on New Year’s Eve at 30,000 feet in the air where…

Anything can happen.

Cheers!

National Roots Day…and the Irish

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Like my heroine, Kacie Bennett in COME FLY WITH ME, my roots are Irish.

I was fortunate to go searching for my roots with my family. I remember the city of Belfast when it was filled with strife and the “Troubles,” a time when my da convinced the local authorities he was an American tourist and not the man they were looking for by pointing to his Made in the USA sneakers. And when my beautiful mum went to buy some lace and minutes after she left the shop, the street was blown up.

Another time we found ourselves stuck at a checkpoint behind a horse and wagon, and later on we feasted on the best breaded chicken dinner I’ve ever had.

This was Ireland on a cloudy day when the air was heavy with the smell of the earth fresh from the rain, when the blanket of green covering the land was so bright it made your eyes hurt. And when the wildflowers I picked made me think of sweet kisses from the handsome lad who’d winked at me.

I always say our roots are like the first chord of a lovely melody.

It’s a start, but it’s up to each of us to write the song of our life…

What are your roots?

Happy Holidays!!

National Homeless Persons’ Remembrance Day

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I’ll never forget the homeless woman I met outside a church in Versailles. It was a cold, winter day with a sharp wind whistling in my ear. I was about to go inside to get warm when I noticed her. She was wearing tattered, black half-gloves over her reddened hands, a torn scarf tied over her matted dark hair. A soiled white linen bandage wrapped around her leg.

She reminded me of the chiffonier, the homeless of another era who gathered under bridges and built fires to keep warm. It broke my heart to see they still existed.

I was on holiday in the lovely little town of the Sun King having arrived from Paris the day before by train. I was wearing a new silk scarf I’d bought in the flea market. I loved that scarf with its pretty floral print of bright red roses splashed over the heavy, rich silk. It made me feel like I was wrapped up in warm sunshine when I fastened it around my neck.

Then I looked at the homeless woman shivering, her eyes heavy from little sleep. Her frail shoulders hunched together to warm herself.

She needed it more.

With a wistful sigh, I unwrapped it and insisted she take it. She couldn’t believe I was giving it to her. She ran her fingers over the silk in a slow manner almost as if she was afraid to touch it. Then she became bolder and rubbed the luxurious material over her cold, wrinkled cheeks. Her eyes lit up with such a glow, my heart melted

She threw her arms around me and hugged me. Tears in her eyes, but a smile on her lips.

Then she disappeared into the crowd.

I went inside the church and said a prayer for her, imagining her sitting by the fire under a bridge. Wearing her new scarf. Touching the silk and humming to herself. I pulled up the collar on my coat and smiled.

I wasn’t cold anymore.

CPT_Jared_gate

I never forgot that woman and thought of her often as I wrote about homeless vets in my holiday romance, “The Christmas Piano Tree.”

The hero is a wounded warrior suffering from PTSD when he shows up at the gate to the entrance to the Mary Huber School for Girls where my heroine, Kristen Delaney, works…she’s been feeding homeless vets with leftover food as a way of keeping her husband’s memory alive (he was killed in Afghanistan)–this is a very difficult Christmas Eve for her and her little girl Rachel…until this soldier shows up!!

Here’s a short scene where we first meet him. Kristen gets a funny feeling when she sees a tall man walking toward her…

“She pulled her steering wheel hard to the right to avoid colliding with the tall man bundled up in a black field jacket and khaki pants, a duffel bag strapped on his back, his broad shoulders dusted with falling snow.

“She stuck her head out of the window to give him a piece of her mind and then stopped.

“Something about him made her stare at him. He had that swagger she knew so well. Military. Seeing him touched a nerve. Another homeless vet. Kristen shook her head, understanding. He was the third one this week looking for a hot meal.

“Not surprising on Christmas Eve.”
