We’ve been on a journey, you and me.

Like the Civil War re-enactors in the photo above.

A trip through time for the past thirty days as I’ve shared with you snippets and excerpts from my book of the heart, LOVE ME FOREVER. A Civil War time travel that takes place from 1862-1863. It’s a big, family saga with two feisty heroines and the military men they love…

Capture_lastIt’s been a crazy roller coaster ride. I’ve promoted my campaign by posting a blog every day with a new graphic I designed, tweeted, etc. until I’m bleary-eyed. I hope you’ve enjoyed the graphics–I enjoyed putting them together, finding the joy and the angst in writing about a war that so divided our nation, but made it stronger.

Like families. Yes, we argue, we fret, we make up, but nothing is stronger than family.

Family is the theme of LOVE ME FOREVER. Two very different women, Liberty Jordan and Pauletta Sue Buckingham, with different ideas are thrown together in a mad, crazy scheme of spying, lost love, and passionate desire for what they can’t have.

The men they love.

Do they get their men?

Well, it is a romance, but it’s also a wild dramatic journey based on actual events in the Civil War. Liberty and Pauletta Sue will make you cheer, then cry, then hold your breath when it looks like all is lost…

Thank you for your support…it means a lot to me.

Power Women of the Confederacy: Love Me Forever Day 29

2 Days left in my Kindle Scout campaign!

power_women_confederacy

War is heartbreaking, especially for women.

The Civil War was no exception.

Women sent their husbands, sweethearts, sons, brothers and fathers off to fight while they were expected to sit home and wait. Sew uniforms, make jams, write letters.

Then something extraordinary happened. For the first time, women from both the North and South took up the cause, dusted off their schoolbooks and became teachers (a male dominated profession), became nurses, put on a uniform. Got into the fight.

The heroines in my time travel, LOVE ME FOREVER, are no exception. I call them the “Power Women of the Confederacy.”

Liberty Jordan is a Civil War re-enactor: disguised as a Confederate officer. She’s thrust back to the battle of Antietam in 1862 and takes it upon herself to challenge a handsome Union Army surgeon about the inhumane treatment of prisoners:

She squared her shoulders, though her lower lip trembled. “Since when is it your duty, sir, to condemn a soldier to harsh treatment and ghastly conditions?”

He was caught in a trap. How could he deny that?

“Are you questioning my authority?”

“Yes,” she said boldly, her eyes sparking. “I warn you, Major, more men will die from disease in this war than battle wounds.”

“I could have you shot for insubordination,” he said in a harsh tone, hoping to frighten the young officer into keeping her radical opinions to herself. No telling what would happen to her if she didn’t.

Damn female was getting under his skin.

“You wouldn’t dare.”

His gaze locked with green eyes that challenged him, made him wish he’d never sent for her. She did things to him no woman had a right to do, made him wonder if she was right about disease claiming more lives. That upset him more than he was willing to admit.

Aloud, he said, “Keep up that kind of dangerous talk, Lieutenant, and you’ll end up hanging from a tree.”

Pauletta Sue Buckingham, a Tennessee belle, lost her beloved Texas Ranger in the war and became a Confederate spy to avenge his death. Here she explains to Liberty what she’s fighting for:

“If you were a real Southerner, you would understand what we’re fighting for,” Pauletta Sue said, accepting the fact Liberty was a virtual stranger to her cause. “We women have been unable to express our feelings for too long, always protected and cared for like chickens in a hen house. Now it’s our turn to rise up and help our men in their time of need and prove we’re equal to them. That our brains are no less intelligent because of our gender, that we’re no less brave because we wear skirts. That whatever our skin color, we can and will fight to the death for our cause.”

Liberty’s jaw dropped. She was stunned but impressed when Pauletta Sue finished her speech. She cast a glance at Bedelia, silently mouthing every word. She, too, was part of the fight.

Now she understood the bond these two women shared. A sisterhood without the boundaries of race or color.

LOVE ME FOREVER is on Kindle Scout — you can read the first 5,000 words on my campaign page. You’ll meet both my heroines and both my heroes in the excerpt. If you nominate my story and it’s published by Kindle Scout, then you’ll receive a free copy!

This week’s theme from Lynn’s My Sexy Saturday website: this is where just once is not enough.

So, here is Sexy Twice as in — Two Sexy Brides. My two heroines are twins–they look exactly alike except for their hair color–but live 150 years apart. Liberty has traveled back from the 21st century to 1862, where she meets up with a brunette Confederate spy who is her spitting image. Wearing a dark wig, Liberty takes her place so Pauletta Sue can do her spying (against Liberty’s will, btw), but she doesn’t plan on falling in love with the woman’s fiancé, the handsome Major Flynt Stephens.

Flynt, however, is suspicious…

“Flynt, please, we can’t marry…not now.”

“What game are you playing with me, Pauletta Sue? Demanding I marry you, and then changing your mind?” he said, leaning down and brushing his lips against hers. He was tempted to carry her upstairs and peel off her clothes, working his way from her flimsy pinafore down to her silk drawers. He wrapped his hands around her waist. His move was brazen, but he was beyond caring. He had to know who she was before he lost his mind. She stiffened, drawing back. He wanted to tell her what he suspected for weeks, but he had to be sure. “I should take you to my bed tonight—”

“I agreed to become your wife, Flynt,” she said, chin up. “Not your mistress.”

“You won’t push me away on our wedding night,” Flynt said, challenging her. “I want you as much as you want me.”

“You insult me, sir.” She raised her hand to strike his cheek, but he grabbed her wrist. She didn’t back down. “I shall pretend I never heard your indecent proposition, Major.” She pulled away from him. “I’ll see you in the morning when you’ve come to your senses.”

“This isn’t over between us, Pauletta Sue.”

“Isn’t it?” she said, miffed. Then she was gone. She ran toward the backstairs, her skirts rustling after her like an angry wind. She didn’t stop, didn’t turn around. He let her go. He had to. He’d lost his temper, let his dark desires override his reason. Fool. His need for her drove him to act like a madman. He prayed he hadn’t lost her for good.

She wore gray.
He wore blue.
But their love defied the boundaries of war.
And time.
