Chocolate is always good, but what if your first kiss, and I mean your VIRGIN KISS, on V-Day is just plain awful?
That’s what happened to Riley Murphy, a new student at Holywell High.
To overcome my shyness, my mom convinced me to try out for the Drama Club. Somehow I landed the leading role in a one-act Chekhov play. Yes, Chekhov. I played this mad, beautiful countess with passion and heart. I loved it. I came alive on stage. I could do anything, be anybody, say anything, I could—
—kiss the male lead?
A gangly sophomore named Luke Vanmeer with long greasy hair and an upper lip curled in a perpetual snarl? He was going to anoint my virgin lips with my first big kiss?
Forget the Altoids. I needed a stress pill.
I quit the play. They could find another dupe. Not me. I wasn’t going to let him use my lips for kissing practice.
Then I heard this little voice in my head telling me this was acting, right? Going through the motions at rehearsals and on stage didn’t count on the kissing scale. I could pucker up with him and still be a kissing virgin.
After that, I sailed through rehearsals, knowing my lines, and “connecting to my character,” according to the director, who insisted on method acting. That’s how the trouble started. We didn’t rehearse the kiss. He wanted a real kiss on stage, he said, not some phony smooch.

This week’s theme is Our Sexy Man and need we say more. This is all about the sexy men in our books. The young ones, the old ones, the middle aged ones, the ones who turn us on like no other. It’s all about the sexy, hot romance they bring to the pages of the books we read and the books we write.

So naturally I have to write about JACE CHANTIERS, the sexy billionaire in “Come Fly with Me,” especially when I just re-did the cover with Mr. Sexy up front and center:
Here’s the set-up: London’s Heathrow airport
New Year’s Eve
Kacie Bennett is stranded in London and desperate to get home to avert a family crisis. She’s shocked when a tall, dark handsome stranger offers her a first class airline ticket, no strings attached.
What’s a girl to do?
Jace Chantiers is a self-made oil billionaire, a player who can have any supermodel he wants, but he doesn’t believe in love. That would mean opening up about the pain in his past, something he swears he’ll never do. When he has to cancel his date to fly to San Francisco for an urgent business meeting, he overhears Kacie’s panicked phone call from her sister and is intrigued by her plight.
He never expected to ring in the New Year with a gorgeous blonde who needs his help. Kacie gets under his skin with her go-to attitude, hard work ethic, and strong dedication to her family. Something he never had growing up. She makes him wonder if he’s missing out on something, something his money can’t buy.
Can Kacie resist this gorgeous man the British tabloids have labeled the sexiest man alive? Does she dare lose her inhibitions at thirty thousand feet…or will she also lose her heart?
This is the scene when Kacie boards the airbus and the flight attendant shows her the tabloid with the sexy billionaire on the cover:
“The Daily Sneek dubbed him the sexiest man alive. His picture is splashed all over the front page.” She winked and handed her the scandal sheet.
Kacie’s eyes popped. It was him all right. There, sprawled on the cover of the glossy gossip sheet was the gorgeous hottie who bought her a ticket home. The man’s charisma grabbed her, as bold and sexy on paper as he was in person. The paparazzi had caught his hard, muscled body in a candid shot somewhere on a white, sandy beach. Shoulders so broad they spilled off the page, his naked chest glistening with sea spray, his abs tighter than a clamshell. And a come-hither grin that would have any woman crawling on her knees to get close to him. His brooding black eyes stared straight into the camera as if daring the photographer to take the shot.
And she had to sit next to him for the whole flight, squirming in her seat, wild feelings stirring within her. Smell his woodsy scent, dream about unbuttoning his silk shirt and running her fingers up and down his muscular bronze chest. It would be pure hell not to let her fingers wander over the armrest and grab his sleeve, feel his forearm tighten under her touch. She’d fooled herself into believing she could handle it. She couldn’t.
She was in dangerous territory with a man this powerful and, God help her, this sexy. She’d only get hurt. That didn’t change how she felt. She wanted to taste his lips, lose herself in his kiss, his body strong and warm against hers.
Kacie groaned inwardly as she followed the flight attendant up the winding stairs toward the first class cabin. With each step, her heart pounded louder in her ears. Mr. GQ was waiting there for her. The memory of the moment he held her gaze with his piercing dark eyes lingered within her like sweet, dark molasses on a stick. He wasn’t a soufflé that needed more sugar or a vichyssoise choking with chives. He was the hunkiest piece of beefsteak she was ever going to meet in her life. A fantasy she’d always dreamed about experiencing with a stunningly handsome man, but never would back home in Forgotten Valley.
Her case of the jitters just got worse. She wondered how she was going to handle being that close to him, inhaling him for the pure joy of it, her body aching for something she could never have.
Her New Year’s Eve sucked.

Mmm…I don’t know about you, but my temp rises whenever I’m around a hot guy like this…he’s the Union Army major in my Civil War time travel, LOVE ME FOREVER.
My heroine, Liberty, disguised as a Confederate officer, has traveled back to 1862 and saved the life of a wounded soldier with the bandage in her rented re-enactor uniform.
Confusing the heck out of our hero.
Her medical knowledge intrigues him, but it doesn’t take him long to guess there’s a gorgeous woman under that uniform…and that’s when things really get interesting when Liberty asks him about checking a patient’s fever with a thermometer and he tells her his unit doesn’t have one. That the Union Army Medical Corps claimed to have a few of the clinical instruments, but no one bothers to use them.
“Then how do you measure fever?” she wanted to know.
“By touching the patient,” he said.
“Oh?”
“Yes. Since chills often accompany fever, nothing more is needed.” He laid his hand on her arm and fought to keep his wits about him. She flinched.
“So tell me, Major,” she said, tantalizing him with her voice, “what is your diagnosis?”
“I’d say the patient is quite feverish,” he said, holding her tight.
God, she was all woman.
She wore gray.

Oh, yes, does that fit my time-traveling heroine, Liberty Jordan, in LOVE ME FOREVER. Dressed as a Confederate officer, she bumps up against the handsome Union Army major when she trips over a bedpan…her breasts pressing against his muscular chest…giving her secret away when the surgeon enlists her help with the wounded in the battlefield hospital after the battle of Antietam:
She looked up at the major, surprised that her initial fears at finding herself back in 1862 were replaced with a growing need to be near him. She broke out in a cold sweat at the thought of leaving him. His eyes searched her out, telling her not to be afraid, that he’d protect her.
Did he know she was a woman?
She was certain he discovered her charade when he touched her earlier. But he kept it to himself. Why, she didn’t know. Now his hand brushed against hers and her world spun. She surrendered to the reality of what she felt for him. The numbness filling her since she was pulled back through the years dissipated. Poof! Suddenly she was ravenously hungry, aching in every bone of her body.
Hot, and then cold.
And now this.
Sexual desire shot through her, confusing her.
I want this man to kiss me, hold me. God, I want him.

When I started my Civil War time travel, “LOVE ME FOREVER ,” I wanted to tell the story of two women — one modern day who goes back in time; and the other, a true Southern belle.
Meet the our Southern belle, Pauletta Sue Buckingham, in today’s excerpt from the Prologue: Pauletta Sue sneaks down to the riverbank where the Rebel troops are camped to see her beloved, Captain Colton Trent of the Texas Rangers:
“I couldn’t stand being away from you another minute, Colton. I had to come.”
“I want to love you as you should be loved, Pauletta Sue, but not here with the smell of death still settling upon the ground.”
“It’s hallowed ground, my love,” she whispered. “And we have but a few hours to live a lifetime.”
“Even a lifetime isn’t long enough to love you.” He pulled up her skirt, the urge to have his hands on her taking her breath away. The rounded hoops bounced up around her, the fine French lace on her underskirts flitting through his eager fingers like frightened butterflies.
Pauletta Sue waited, her nerves twitching, but she felt no embarrassment. No silly schoolgirl blush tinted her cheeks as he pulled his faded muslin shirt up over his head, the broadness of his shoulders ripping apart the hastily-sewn seams.
Every inch of him taut and muscular. Seizing her imagination and making her want no other man. Ever.
Why must I wait till the war is over to make love to him?

This week’s My Sexy Saturday theme is “I’m so sexy.” I thought it would be fun to see what knocks Kacie on her butt when she sees this guy who’s just being…well, a billionaire. He can’t help himself…he’s just so sexy!!
Here we go. 7 paragraphs of “I’m so sexy…” from COME FLY WITH ME:
What he was doing hanging out at the airline ticket counter, she didn’t know, but she couldn’t keep her eyes off him. He was in a primo class all by himself. His midnight blue pin-striped suit emphasized the breadth of his shoulders. Crisp white collar hugged his tanned neck. Blue silk shirt. Dark hair cut in a sophisticated style. Stubble beard that emphasized his strong jaw. Black overcoat slung over his shoulder.
He had the polish of a GQ model and the sex appeal of a rogue.
It didn’t add up.
Any girl would count herself lucky to be in her spot. Why shouldn’t she take him up on his offer and think about it later?
He had everything going for him. Thick dark hair that spiked over one eye at just the right angle to a squared-off jaw to dark granite eyes that flashed a signal too dangerous to ignore.
And he was tall, something this girl in her size nines would die for. So tall, she had to look up to him.
Six five without taking a breath.
