Tell a Fairy Tale Day with “The Mermaid Princess”

Today is National Tell a Fairy Tale Day!

tell_fairytale_day

I love this beautiful graphic I put together — it’s soft and dreamy like fairy tales should be.

What’s your fave fairytale?

Mine is The Little Mermaid.

In so many fairy tales, the princess has to wait for the prince. Not our mermaid. She goes out and gets her man!! I love that idea–and so true.

You can’t wait around in a tower washing your long hair, or doing housework with one shoe waiting for something to happen.

Get out there and make it happen!!

Here’s a little poem for you I wrote about Mermaids:

mermaid_princess

Once upon a fairy tale

A gorgeous prince set out to sail

A bad, bad wind his ship did sink

Which put our hottie prince over the brink

Then a princess mermaid came swimming by

And saved him without being shy

But when he awoke on land so dry

He didn’t remember her, oh my

So the princess mermaid risked all to walk

But the spell was so she couldn’t talk

So she had to watch another girl catch his eye

And could say nothing about how he almost died

But she didn’t give up, oh no, not in this tale

For mermaids always get their man without fail.

Fairy tales tell us what’s right and should be

For true love like hers must win…on land or sea.

My Military Heroes: from the Civil War to Afghanistan for Veterans Day

Military heroes…we women love them.

And let’s not forget our female veterans.

So on this Veterans Day, I salute the heroes in my stories who serve our country:

A female soldier, a Southern belle and spy, a mother fighting the Nazis, a World War 2 soldier in Italy, and a returning vet honoring his best buddy’s last wish.

I haven’t made a video yet for “The Christmas Piano Tree,” so here’s the story:

What’s Christmas without a tree?

Kristen Delaney can’t afford a Christmas tree this year, but she doesn’t want to disappoint her little girl Rachel. The six-year old already lost her daddy in Afghanistan. To cheer her up, Kristen hires a homeless vet to play Santa at the private school where she works. Little does she know it was no accident the hunky Santa showed up in Kissing Creek just in time for Christmas Eve.

Sgt. Jared Milano promised Scott Delaney he’d take care of his wife and little girl. He also shared with him a secret that would change Kristen’s life, a secret about her Aunt Gertrude and an old piano, but the IED blast blew away part of his memory.

Jared fights his growing desire for Kristen as he struggles to regain his past and overcome the PTSD haunting him. Kristen is lonely and not ready to fall in love again, but she can’t take her eyes off him. Doesn’t want to. When he’s accused of a crime, she refuses to believe he’s guilty and invites the handsome soldier to spend Christmas Eve with them.

When a sudden snowstorm turns deadly and Rachel goes missing, Jared must use all his skills to find her and prove to Kristen he’s guilty only of falling in love with her.

“The Christmas Piano Tree” is the story of a pretty young war widow who re-discovers the magic of the holiday season with the help of a homeless vet and an old piano.

Thank you to all our veterans for your service!

A Tennessee Belle joins the fight in 1862 for Memorial Day

Who doesn’t get teary-eyed when you see a soldier coming home from a long battle overseas?

But what if that battle is fought in your own backyard?

During the Civil War, so many women fought that battle both in and out of uniform.

Today I want to talk about what it was like in 1862 when a beautiful Tennessee belle joined that fight.

She fell in love with a handsome Texas Ranger at a Confederate ball, but her papa forbade them to marry…so she ran away…

And became a Rebel spy.

ROYAL DARE It ain’t easy getting clean. Even for a princess.

I first met Princess Violetta in Sariah Wilson’s story, ROYAL DATE.

I fell in love with the Monterra family, especially Violetta. I call her the “misunderstood princess.” She has everything—looks, money and a title—yet she fell victim to the seductive power of drugs. Why? I wondered. What led her down this path?

I was intrigued to answer that question, but more importantly, I wanted to know what happened to Violetta when she went to rehab.

How hard is it for a princess to get clean? And will she find her prince when she does?

I answer this question and more in my Kindle Worlds “The Royals of Monterra” story, ROYAL DARE. You can meet see what happened to her afterward in rehab in ROYAL DARE.

The Tennessee Belle of the Ball meets the man of her dreams…but her papa forbids her to marry him

Tennessee_dance_1862

In this week’s episode of the PBS series, MERCY STREET, The Belle Alliance, the Yankees hold a ball in the home of our belle, Emma. I’m dying to see what happens…

She reminds me of my secondary heroine in LOVE ME FOREVER, Pauletta Sue. When I found this charming scene from an old film of a Confederate ball on Dreamstime.com, it reminded me of a scene in my story where Pauletta Sue meets the love of her life.

Here’s is an excerpt from my story:

What a fine evening it was when the tall scout burst into the ballroom at a levee she was attending, fired up with delivering an important message from President Jefferson Davis. A light misty rain covered him from head to toe like shiny armor, his broad shoulders filling the archway with the power of an avenging angel, his fierce blue eyes searching the room, making every lady breathless, every man envious.

He strode across the ballroom in long strides, saluted, and then delivered his sealed letter to the owner of the home, a Confederate sympathizer. He turned on his heel and should have left as silently as he came, but he saw Pauletta Sue staring at him and gave her the biggest grin. The man was so startling handsome, she couldn’t look away. But it was more than that. An unseen force grabbed her by the throat and made her tingle down to her dancing slippers. God, she’d never forget the sight of him. Tight buckskin drawn taut over his muscular chest, stubble beard, nostrils flaring. She knew then he was the man she was going to marry. She’d settle for no less.

No one could stop her.

Not even Papa.

Elijah Buckingham would never approve of her marrying anyone without a Southern pedigree, but times were changing, she told him. Didn’t this war prove that? Course, she had never surrendered to a man, but she wanted to with this daring stranger. A yearning so strong, she could taste it. Just like in her dream. She never told anyone about her dream, that one day she’d marry a tall, fearless man who would risk everything to be with her. She’d carried her secret in her heart for so long, never believing such a man existed. His direct gaze stripped away her girlish frippery and made her feel like a woman. Made her hunger for something far more fascinating than the insipid flattery of her other beaux. She wanted him to crush her in his arms and claim her lips. Kiss her. Taste her. Love her.

Not a word came out of her mouth when he asked her to dance, breaking every rule. She was speechless. A first for her. A hush fell over the room. Ladies stopped fluttering their fans, men grumbled, everyone waiting to see what she’d do.

Then, with the sweetest smile ever seen in a Tennessee ballroom, she’d extended her hand to him and they danced. And danced. She’d paid no mind to the whispers and raised brows. Let them talk. She’d made up her mind. The Texas Ranger was her man and no tongue-wagging ladies’ group would stop her from fulfilling her heart’s desire. That didn’t mean her papa was pleased. He forbade her to see Colton, but Pauletta Sue would have none of it, outwitting him at every turn. She never doubted Colton loved her. He was a man of few words, but the way he looked at her, his brow furrowed, his blue eyes deepening into dark velvety depths, his breath coming hard when he held her in his arms, she knew.

During the Civil War in 1862, Rosebriar Plantation in Falmouth, Virgina was turned into a battlefield hospital for both the North and the South . . .  forbidden love . . . the war on the back steps of the mansion . . . and Civil War medicine with all its drama. That not only describes my Civil War time travel romance, LOVE ME FOREVER, but the new PBS series, MERCY STREET.

I’m discovering that my Civil War time travel romance, LOVE ME FOREVER, has a lot more in common than hoop skirts with the new PBS series, MERCY STREET. Mercy Street explores the very real horror administering to battle wounds as does my story, LOVE ME FOREVER.

I really enjoyed writing LOVE ME FOREVER, about two very different women, Liberty Jordan and Pauletta Sue Buckingham, who are thrown together in a mad, crazy scheme of spying, lost love, and passionate desire for what they can’t have.

The men they love.

Do they get their men?

Well, it is a romance, but it’s also a wild dramatic journey based on actual events in the Civil War. Liberty and Pauletta Sue will make you cheer, then cry, then hold your breath when it looks like all is lost…
