My secret teenage journal revealed for #NotebookDay

I have a secret.

I kept a journal, a notebook, of my teenage angst that makes me laugh, cry, and feel a pang of longing for this young girl who struggled so hard to find her place in the world.

Especially with boys.

Surfers topped my list.

I had a long board then…and little ole me couldn’t carry the board very far. Well, I could barely drag it. It was a secondhand board — a faded yellow sun color — but it was my ticket to paradise.

“Could y’all help me?” I’d coo, my Southern accent stronger than it had been since my childhood in Kentucky.

“Girls don’t surf…they watch,” was what I’d usually hear.

I stomped my bare foot into the sand, but I didn’t give up.

One guy did help me.

A 6’5″ surfer god with a bronzed bod, a philosophy student whom I never forgot. He taught me about onshore and offshore winds and stuff like that.

But that’s not what went into my journal. My notebook.

You can guess.

‘Cause I’m not telling that secret.

On Notebook Day, what are your fave journal entries?

LOVE ME FOREVER is a saga of love and romance and war. Believe me, I walked every road, fought every battle with my characters, even walked around in a hoop skirt to “get it right.”

This is a book of the heart…any questions? Please ask!!
